CFBW 91.3 FM Bluewater Radio Hanover Ontario
Bluewater Radio started broadcasting on December 31st 2001 with a three-year Developmental Community Licence. The station started in a 640sq ft rented basement space at 275 10th St in Hanover, and broadcast 17 hrs per day to The Town of Hanover and the immediate area. In the beginning, with only 6 people, BWR faced many challenges trying to establish itself in the community. In April 2003 Andrew McBride was appointed as Executive Director of Bluewater Radio. The station was reformatted to reflect the needs of the community. The daytime programming was developed to play a mix of Rock, Pop, Oldie's, Country and Folk Music with News, Weather, Community Events, and Special Features. "From 7 to 6 A Great Music Mix" with unique specialty programming evenings and weekends. Shows include The World Music Show, Crooners, Joel's Comedy Classic and "The Sounds of Scotland" Show, which is now syndicated worldwide. As part of its mandate BWR developed 6 hours of Christian programming on Sunday, including a Sunday Church Service and Gospel Show. In 2005 Bluewater Radio was granted a permanent license and increase in power. This enabled BWR to serve a larger coverage area with a better reception. In August 2007 Bluewater Radio secured the purchase of its present offices and studios, with the Grand Opening on October 20th 2007. In the spring of 2008 BWR relocated its transmitter and broadcast antenna to the Hartman Communication Tower in Brockton. Bluewater Radio is considered a leader in the management and structure of new and developing radio stations. BWR has lent its expertise to help and advise new stations getting started. The station acts as a training facility for new broadcasters and has an impressive record. Over 10 people have gone on th jobs in the broadcasting industry. One former presenter Valerie Poxleitner "Lights" in 2009 won a Juno Award for "New Artist of the Year." In March 2010 Bluewater Radio was nominated for two S.C.o B.E. Awards. for business excellence. In May 2010 Bluewater Radio was awarded the S.C.o B.E. Award for Corporate Citizen of The Year. Bluewater Radio was also named runner up for Business of The Year (Under 15 Employees) at the S.C.o B.E. Awards. At present BWR has approx 50 people involved with the day to day operation of the station. |
