Obituaries

Ivan Henry Schmidt, of Hanover, passed away after a brief illness surrounded by the ones he loved at Hanover and District Hospital on Sunday, April 14, 2024.  He was 93. 

Born in Bentinck Township on January 8, 1931 to the late William and Sophia (nee Engel) Schmidt. Ivan had farmed most of his life and worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator with McDonald Building Supplies as well. Anywhere Adele went, Ivan was not too far behind. They enjoyed attending First St. Matthew's Ev. Lutheran Church, making many friends, devoting and sharing their faith with others.  

Survived by devoted wife Adele (nee Munro) Schmidt of Hanover. Loved father of Eleanor (John) Fruin of Walkerton and Cyndi (Ken) Fischer of Mildmay. Special Grandpa of Curtis (Allison), Megan (Pat), Dan (Leila), Brett (Shauni) and Valerie. Always loved by his great grandchildren Alley, William, Madelyn and Kailynn. Ivan will be missed by his niece Cheri Lew (Bill) Caldwell and his nephew Craig (Michelle) Whitmore and their family. He will be remembered by his brothers in law Bill (Gen) Munro of Severn, Wayne (Sandra) Munro of Hanover and his sister in law Wilma Munro of Durham.  Predeceased by his parents, his sister Helen (Lewis) Whitmore and brothers in law Alan (Lois) Munro and Ross Munro. 

Family and friends are invited to Visitation held at Mighton Funeral Home, Hanover, on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 from 6-9pm.  A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, April 18, 2024 at 11:00 am, at First St. Matthew's Ev. Lutheran Church, Hanover with visitation from 10am - 10:45 am. Pastor Jody Rinas officiating. Interment to follow in Hanover Cemetery, Hanover.
